945GM chipset and BLURRY/GHOSTING text at 1680x1050 resolution

I've already done a forum search on this issue.

The only thread that I can find offers no solution:

http://softwarecommunity.intel.com/isn/Community/en-US/forums/post/30240425.aspx

I purchased a viewsonic VA2226w (native resolution 1680x1050) to use in my home office as an external display with my gateway MP8708 laptop.

The 945GM chipset does not have a problem running at 1680x1050 and the optionIS available in the display dialog box as long as I am NOT using the latest intel 945GM drivers. When IAM using the new driver that resolution is not available, but with the old driver, dated 06/11/07 it is available.

Problem is, the text is blurry due to quite a bit of ghosting. I agree with the gentleman in the above post that the problem is probably with the phase timing but I have no idea how to fix it.

Rather than verbally strangle another group of gateway techs is there anyone out there that can explain to me how to fix this.

I am desperate and on a deadline and cannot stare at this thing any longer or my vision may become irreparably damaged!

Help me, Intel-Wan-Kenobi. You're my only hope.

Well,

Intel just emailed me back for the third time and said that it isn't there problem:

"Our drivers and software have been tested and there are no issues
detected.

We have also tested the Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset with
these drivers and everything is working correctly. We have not been able to
replicate the issue nor have other customers reported it.

In this case, it seems that the issue might be with your specific
hardware; therefore, we highly recommend contacting your computer
manufacturer for information on this issue or possibly warranty options."

OF COURSE MY RESPONSE WAS:

Guys,
Apparently you aren't testing your product as extensively as you may believe. The amount of people on many different message boards that comment on the 945GM having very specific problems with being able to run a monitor in 1680x1050 resolution is easily observed. Just Google it.
When you have people REWRITING your driver to fix the various issues, people that are even software devolpers on intel's own website, then it seems pretty obvious that the problem is with the driver.
But, hey! Deny reality. It's good foryour competition.

Hey,

Did you find a resolve for this issue? I have a similar problem. I have a 945G video controller in my Toshiba M100, trying to connect a LG M228WA 22" LCD monitor. I have previously had this working using the OEM drivers supplied on the Install CD. After recently re-installing XP, I thought it would be best to get the latest video driver from the Toshiba website. Since then I am no longer able to select this resolution. I have also tried the driver from Intel, and the older driver and I can still not get this resolution! Angry smiley [:@]

I have also tried to force the resolution through Powerstrip, but it is very unclear on the screen and the refresh reported on Windows is 270 Mhz!

Any help would be appreciated.

I have exactlythesame problem with my Vaio VGN-n38e (945GM with all sorts of drivers tested) and HP w2007v screen. The resolution is in the list but all image is blurred. It works correctly with other GFX cards. Funny thing I checked - the screen info shows resolution 1400x1050 while all the other information says it isnative 1680x1050 -andit is causeI checked it "manually" (counted all the pixels :) ).

I tried to get responce from intel on this forum couple of times but it seems that no one is willing to answer. Does it mean no one have managed to fix this issue?

Couple different possibilities here: is Panel Fitting enabled? In that case, there will be scaling (which is probably the source of your blurring/ghosting). When you say "screen info" (vs all the other information), what are you referring to?

Hey,
Finally, the HP accepted that the problem is there. What is the use of this 22" monitor when you cannot get the best it offers!

This suggestion as mentioned in the above URL is not helping. I have the same problem. I used the above link and downloaded the driver software for my XP. But the driver would not install. It says that the driver does not support the hardware!!!

Any clues for my operating system? I cannot get the native resolution for my ViewSonic VA2226w?.

Thanks

Panel Fitting is off.. If I turn it on - the image is shrinked horizontaly as if it was 1400-1050, however proportions are distorted. By "screen info" I mean OSD display on monitor. If I check windows properties for resolution it is the right one or for instance I create an image of 1680x1050px - it ifts the screen. So resolution seams to be ok, but somehow screen reads itnot properly anddisplays it blurred...

Couple of things:

1. There is no way for an absolutely crisp display with your components: Your notebook as well as your TFT both only feature a analog VGA interface. Get the best and shortest analog VGA cable you can get. 1680 x 1050 means a bandwith of almost 150MHz. I have seen a lot of cables, but never one that transports this bandwidth with no loss. Lower resolutions are not affected. Anything below 120MHz is fine and sometimes >120 is also acceptable. Discrete graphics cards still may result in a better image quality as well as other notebooks with the same display. You might cure this effect to some degree by experimenting with GTF blanking / reduced blanking timings, but that's something probably beyond your skills. To help somewhat: Post the output of MonInfo:
http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm

2. If it only affects text, you may tune ClearType Fonts:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/tuner/Step1.aspx

3. I do know HP TFTs - though not your model. However I know they do print the very exact resolution in their OSD. I can not believe it prints 1400 x 1050. Is there a "sync"/"Auto Adjust" function to force in the OSD? If yes, press it. Can you switch between "1:1" / "keep Aspect" / "stretch to screen"? Select 1:1 if possible.

4. Try Laptop + cable on different TFT. Same effect?

5. Use macro mode of digital camera, take "sharp" image and upload somewhere for people to judge/comment.

EOL'ed part kenobi. Perhaps we could investigate other avenues. You never stated your system config (including OS, driver version, etc - an MSCONFIG export). That would be far more usefulwhen submitting bugs (which should not even be done here - at support.intel.com).

Dear Archibael,

I believe you will be my savior as well. I bought a LCD Samsung 2253LW 22' with resolution for 1680x1050 which, of course, my laptop does not have. I tried to read all the postings but I am completely lost. I even read several times your posting at http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/custom-resolutions-on-intel-graphics which is very interesting but it is another language for me.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S3443 with the Intel Chipset 945GM express in it.

I tried running the moninfo but it does not detected my external monitor !! I dont know what to do to make the program to detect the monitor!!!

I installed the latest driver for the 945GM

I tried the powerstrip without success as well.

I even opened the Igxp32.inf to try to manually change the Hex! I copied and pasted a few options from the forum and none worked out.

Could you please email me at ludovino1@gmail.com what to do?

I am to the point that I feel like bashing my head against the monitor.

Thank you

its probably a setting on the monitor to scale to full screen

try messing with the monitor buttons and see if there is a setting for 1:1 timings

Yet another 1680x1050 issue..

Hi Guys - thanks for all the info so far.

I cant get my LG W2241S to work on 1680*1050 on a VAIO VGN-N11M with the 945 Express Chipset.
I installed the monitors drivers, my machine gives me the option to select 1680x1050 res - but still the quality is unacceptable!! The bloody thing gives you a headache after 5 mins of looking at it!
