Bug in 14.32 with X3100 (panel fitting)

I have an HP 6710b - T7100, X3100, 1280x800x32, XP Pro SP2 (fully updated).

The 14.32.4885 drivers have become available on the G33 page (not available yet on the mobile 965 page). The drivers are listed as supporting mobile 965 though, and successfully installed.

I have found a bug with the panel fitting functionality that did not exist in the 14.31(.x) drivers.

If "Center Desktop" is selected, everything works as expected. The screen is crisp, and lower resolutions are centred.

If I have "Maintain Aspect Ration" or "Full Screen" scaling turned on though, scaling is beingdonefrom the native resolution to the native resolution, resulting ina blurred screen. This occurs on boot-up, and also any time the resolution is changed back to the native resolution.

If I cycle through to "Center Desktop" and then to one of the other modes it will remain crisp until the next time the resolution is changed (or reboot).

On the plus side, the performance does seem slightly improved, though I haven't done anyproper benchmarking yet, and the Temple of Elemental Evil no longer has lighting artifacts in HW vertex shading mode.

On the minus side, all the games I'd forced to either SW or HW vertex shading were lost, and I've had to re-add them to the registry.

Also kinda on the plus side - this bug does give a (very) poor man's anti-aliasing at native resolution.

I'd take a real 2xFSAA any day though ... I've got lots of older games where frame rate is a complete non-issue on this laptop, but anti-aliasing would really help.

BTW, I have reported this bug via email to support as detailed in the sticky.

Just wanted to contribute another data point.

I am setting up an Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows XP SP2 (fully patched). This laptop uses the 965 chipset with the X3100 graphics card. I am using the zip file driver version 14.33 dated 2/15/2008. I am downgrading the laptop from Vista to XP, and I noticed in XP that the screen didn't seem as crisp as it was in Vista. I stumbled upon this post and sure enough, changing the Panel Fit setting from "Full Screen" to "Center Desktop" cleared everything up. The display is beautiful once again.
