Currently Supported Windows OS for licence manager

Dear all, we have to set up a new license server for floating licenses and the question arose, which Windows OS versions (Windows Server 2008 R2/ 2012 R2, x64) are supported currently by the license manager (w_isl_server_p_2.3.0.002_intel64, Parallel Studio release 15.0). In the documentation and the forum I found no information on this topic. Can anybody tell me the requirements? Any help is welcome. Best regards, Johannes

Johannes,

There isn't really any restriction with running the Intel(R) Software License Manager on Windows OS, thus we don't specify system requirements. On the other hand, we do not test all available Windows OS versions.

The only requirement for running the license manger is that it can detect a host id (any of the MAC addresses). To test this you can download the Intel(R) Software License Manager in advance and run the lmutil lmhostid tool on the dedicated server. If it returns one or all MAC addresses you can assume that the full functionality of the license manager is available on that server.

The only issue that can happen is that the license manager doesn't start as service (will issue a proper error message). In that case, the ISL can be run as application, i.e. running lmgrd -c <license_file> on a command prompt on the server.

Does this help?

Regards, Hubert.

Dear Hubert, thank you for the fast reply. It helps. We will give Windows server 2012 R2 a chance and will see what happens. From your answer I expect that this should work. ANSYS uses also a FLEXlm based license manager and they say 2012 r2 is supported. So, we will test lmutil lmhostid tool first on an existing Windows server 2012 R2 system. If it works there, then it should be fine. Thanks, Johannes
