I am trying to run a few games on my laptop Dell 1525 w/vista 1g ram 120gb hdd. Every time i go to install company of heroes on my laptop everything comes up fine until it goes to check my shader support model it reports that 1.1 is needed to play, but shows 0.0. Funny thing is that the gma x3100 will support 4.0 this year, yet supposedly already supports 3.0. however new drives did not fix and tech support tells me that there is no shader support available for the x3100 at all. AAAAAAARGGGGGGGGHHH!!!
sorry about that I just dropped 600 bucks on this laptop only to find that the one thing i wanted it for I can't do. HELP PLEASE

I downloaded the ones from the intel site, and instead of just running the .exe, I unzipped them, and forced my vaio to use them. I haven't tried this game you're talking about, but the performanced increased a lot with other games.
Now I'm using 15.7.3 (from the intel web site, dated 1/10/2008), while sony provides drivers dated 05/15/2007

As I said, here is my little guide to install intels driver on your laptop.
First, you must download the zipped version of the driver (not the EXE file) from here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2800&DwnldID=14964&strOSs=153&OSFullName=Windows%20Vista*%20Home%20Premium,%2032-bit%20version〈=eng (this is the link for vista drivers).
Once youve downloaded it, just unzip it somewhere in your hard drive.
Then you must open the device manager. To do this, right click on My PC (it will depend on your windows version, XP or Vista. The names be different too, as I have my Windows in Spanish) and open Properties. In that screen, click on Device Manager.
The device manager will pop up. Find the Display device node and open it. There youll find your X3100 under the name Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family.
Right click on it, open its properties, and go to the driver tab. Click the Update Driver button. It will pop up a windows asking how do you want to search the drivers, click the second option Search the driver on your PC.
In the next step, youll have two options again: point to a path for the drivers, or Choose from a list. Click choose from a list. Then click the Have disk button and browse to the path where you unzipped the drivers at the beginning of this little guide.
Thats all, accept everything until every windows close. If at any time windows says that those drivers are not for your hardware, ignore it.
Once done all this mess, the next time intel release a driver, just download the EXE and run it, this time wont say your hardware is incompatible.
TWO NOTES:
- First, as I say before, my windows is in spanish, so the translation of the name of the buttons and messages might not be exact.
- Second, but not less important, I descrived what I did on my VAIO CR. I won't take the blame if something goes wrong, but i'll try to help you in that case.
In my VAIO, vista gave me a score of 3.0, that rised to 3.2 when I updatated the drivers. I also tried this on a Lenovo Thinkpad R61i, and the score went from 3.0 to 2.8, so its up to you to test it.
Greetings,Mauricio
