Graphics Driver/Screen Resolution?

I have an HP nc6220 laptop with the Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family and all drivers have been updated but the screen resolution is still huge. I set the resolution at the highest (1024x768) but it's still huge. When I go into properies -> settings -> display devices, I get two options in the dropdown: 1. Plug and Play Monitor 2. (Default Monitor). When I click on Default, I am able to get the option to change the resolution to a higher setting, but it nothing happens even though the settings get saved. When I go back into the same screen, the setting is reverted back to the Plug and Play Monitor. I do not have a plug and play monitor attached. How do I fix this?
