Help needed to get 1920x1080 resolution on an Intel 915gm graphics card

I have a Dell laptop with an Intel 915gm chipset graphics card which I'm trying to use with a Dell S2409W 24'' monitor. This monitor has an optimum resolution of 1920x1080, but I'm not able to select this in Display Settings or by using Powerstrip. I've been reading the advice in these forums for hours, but so far have had no luck getting it to work. If anyone has some advice about this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

Just to mentionm, laptop is DELL LATITUDE D610, and monitor is BENQ G2220HDA!

Monitor driver tell video card what resolution need, not video card driver.

I registed to this site just to answer to you guys, cause i was have same problem, just i fixed in minute.

P.S. exract .rar and run the .exe setup file, pick your video port and use fake monitor name. You can rename name in inf file if wana. then i will install, and then go in desktop poperties and pick max resolution.

Thank you for your post but I was actaully looking fora resolution near 1920 x 1200, also my laptop does not have DVI output, just RGB do you think you can help with this resolution ?

well i have just VGA out to but its all ok. well if you need 1920 x 1200, then i can try make video driver for your monitor to force 1920 x 1200. if you need any other resolution (as you said close to this one, then post what resolution exacly you like to have). Sorry for slow reply, i will watch this tread now for a while, glad to help :)

Thank you for your post, when I say that I need near 1920x1200 I meant that previous posts said that 1920x 1200 could not be achieved, however if you can get 1920x1200 then that would be great. Not sure if you saw my thread before but I have this raw data after using theMonitor Asset tool :-

I have a Toshiba Portege R200 with the above graphics card and have followed much of the advice on this forum to update the driver to the Intel latest version, can you helpedit the .inf file to add the resolution I need, using the 'Monitor Asset Manager' I have got the following Raw Data for the Dell Monitor I have (2407WFPHC)

I need a slightly different resolution than that described in this forum, is it possible for me to get1920x1200 using the fix you are discussing in this forum ?

Could you tell me which data I need to edit in the .inf file to give me a resolution1920x1200 ?

Hello everyone.

I had the same problem, and was able to solve it using the DTDCalculator tool. Detailed instructions on how to use it are available here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=8560f86dbf02b42d1f0c7cf063b7a3e3&t=947830

The forum also has many answers in case the default settings don't work out for you.
Here are the steps that worked for me (Dell laptop with 915GM embedded graphics card):

0. Backup your Bios. The procedure below worked for me, but better safe than sorry.
1. In Calculation tab, find the dropdown box next to Standard Timings and select the resolution and frequency that your monitor supports (1920x1080p @ 60 Hz worked for me).
2. The boxes on the left should populate with numbers. Under H Active Pixels CHANGE 1920 to 1918. This is because Dell apparently blocks 1920x1080 in video BIOS, so that resolution will not be available no matter what else you do.
3. Go to the Registry Hack tab. Most likely, No of DTDs should show 0. In such a case, click on the More button. A new line will appear with two more buttons. Click on the Get Calculated button that's just appeared. You can do the same thing as long as No of DTDs is less than 5. If No of DTDs is 5, you will have to replace one of the existing lines by pressing Get Calculated. Which line you replace will depend on which custom resolution you no longer need.
4. Click on Write DTDs to Registry. Restart when prompted
5. When the computer restarts, go to Graphics Options in Windows and change resolution to the newly available option.
6. Enjoy!

After a day of looking through various possible solutions, this one worked for me. Hope it helps someone else as well. :)

I'm trying to connect LG E2240 to Toshiba Satellite laptop, with no use - my max resolution is 1024 (!) and I need 1920x1080.

when u go into the desktop of the OS,u can try to click the desktop by the right-click of the mouse,choose the attribute,then pick the setting,then u can decide the screen resolution.
if there is not any graphics driver installed appropriately,u can make it by autoupdating by the OS or by try some other softwares to install the drivers of OS needed to be installed.

Hi Aaron,

I have two laptops with i915gm and i945gm and apparently both have some video modes disabled, so on both of them I can't select those disabled modes no matter what I do, hacking DTD included, when I run Windows XP. Those one-or-two-pixel-less modes yield moire which is very annoying when working with text.

So then how come I can select any mode on those very same laptops when I run Ubuntu Linux? Does Linux not heed BIOS restrictions? If it is made possible for Intel drivers in Linux, why not do the same in Windows?

By the way, the picture is perfect on both machines, no extra heat or any other malicious effect is perceptible, so it seems to be rather bizarre that these laptops' manufacturers opted to cripple their devices this way.
