How to get wide screen 1366x720 resolution out of my external VGA port of my Intel 82852 notebook display adapter

The title says it all. This Dell D400 Latitude laptop apparently cannot drive my new 1366x720 LCD TV from the VGA port (at least not at its native resolution), and I was wondering if there was a patch for the driver. I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers today. It is too bad because it does drive my other LCD TV, a 1920x1050 set, just fine.
