I am observed intermittent "jerks" in XP MCE 2005 RU2 playback of recorded digital TV content on two machines I recently built / re-built. One machine is a G45 (P5Q-EM) and the other is a 965G (DG965OT) based machine. Its almost as if the video jumps back to a prior frame briefly, and then resumes normal play. Audio does not appear to be affected.
I have troubleshot the issue to something that changed with the Intel graphics driver between v6.14.10.4926 and v6.14.10.4969. With the Intel 32 bit XP graphics driver v6.14.10.4926 video playback works fine on the 965G system (driver not valid for the G45), and with v6.14.10.4969 the intermittent jerk is introduced on both systems.
It seems to be related to de-interlacing. The nVidia Purevideo decoder has a de-interlacing option setting that can be changed from "Automatic" to "Video" and that will fix the problem on the 965G (nVidia Purevideo decoder runs fine on "Automatic" on the G45), but the similar PowerDVD 9 Ultra settings have no effect. Probably not coincidentally, it would seem the v6.14.10.4969 driver is the first driver I could find that is valid for the G45.
So I'm inclined to point the root cause finger at a bug introduced by some feature that was changed or added into the 32 bit XP graphics driver from Intel to support the G45, but it is possible this is a PowerDVD 9 Ultra bug. I am surprised I have not heard more about it. Would be happy to provide more detail to Intel for troubleshooting if desired.
Please post if you have experienced same issue or if more details are desired for troubleshooting at Intel.
