Infrared vs rgb - which is better for tracking?

Hi! For the face tracking demo inSDK, I see there is RBG mode and IR mode. Do I understand correctly, that IR mode is  better, because it works under worse lighthing conditions? Or sometimes, RGB is better then IR (say, at daytime?); 

For example, which is better for tracking - IR inside completely dark room, or RGB inside well-lighten room?

As you said  IR inside completely dark room and RGB inside well-lighten room , IR is very sensitive for day light but if you covered it from this light it will be better than the RGB
