Installation Failure: Intel Parallel Studio XE 2017 Upd. 4, Visual Studio Prof 2017 and Windows 10

I've just installed the Visual Studio Professional 2017 on a Windows 10 machine.  When trying to install the Intel Parallel Studio XE 2017 Update 4, I'm getting a message indicating that compiler cannot be installed because there is no VS installed.  Of course, the VS 2017 is working fine.  Any ideas how I can force the Intel Installer to recognize the VS installation?

Thanks!

I am having a similar problem. I have just uninstalled VS2015 as the latest WDK now supports VS2017. All of that is now installed and working. I am now starting a project that uses the Intel XE 2015 C++ toolchain for it's device drivers. Looking around the Intel site I found I could get it under the terms of producing freeware.

I have tried:-

   Intel XE 2018 beta update

   Intel XE 2018 beta

Intel XE 2017 update 4 (The first to have VS2017 support)

All seem to fail to find the VS2017 installation. Is there a work around for this?

Hi Hal,

Thanks for the link, however, I'm just not sure if this document applies to my problem.  The main issue here is that Intel Parallel Studio XE cannot even detect that the Visual Studio 2017 is already installed.  I was wondering if you have any additional recommendations.

By the way, I have been using Intel Compilers integrated into Visual Studio IDE for many years and this is the first time I'm having such problems.

Thanks,

Herminio

Hi,

I have the same problem with you, and the Pre-requisite Issues Summary as below, i hope it helpful:

  System reboot may be required.
For extended GPU analysis with Intel(R) VTune(TM) Amplifier XE 2017 on Intel(R) HD Graphics and Intel(R) Iris(TM) Graphics, make sure to reboot the system before data collection.

Intel® C++ Compiler will not work because none of the supported environments is found on your computer
Intel® C++ Compiler requires that Microsoft Visual Studio* / Microsoft Visual Studio Express Edition* 2012, 2013, 2015, or 2017, or Microsoft Windows SDK* for Windows* 8.0 should be already installed and none was found on your computer.
If you select 'Next', Intel® C++ Compiler will be installed but will not work.
Please refer to the Release Notes (https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-c-compiler-170-release) for details.

Additional requirements for using Intel® C++ Compiler to offload application computation to Intel(R) Graphics Technology
Please see the online Getting Started With Compute Offload To Intel Graphics Technology (https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/getting-started-with-compute-offload-to-intelr-graphics-technology) for complete host and target requirements.

The Intel(R) Debugger Extension for Intel(R) MIC Architecture cannot be installed.
Installation can continue; however, Intel(R) Debugger Extension for Intel(R) MIC Architecture will not be installed because it requires that Microsoft Visual Studio* 2012, 2013, 2015 or 2017 be installed. Refer to the Release Notes for more details.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2013* Shell is available for installing from this package.
Please note that Visual Studio Shell does not support use of Intel® C++ Compiler – it is for use with Intel® Visual Fortran Compiler only.
