Hi,
I am involved in writing drivers for 82551IT Ethernet Controllerfor our ELAN Microcontroller based board. In order to clear the chip and hardware, I want to use loopbacking feature. I want to enquire about loopbacking feature of the chip:
1) How it works?
2) What is the difference between PHY layer and MAC Layer based loopbacking (setiing bits in PHY and MAC layer configurations)
3) Configurations required to be done to get the loopbacking done.
4) How to test the loopbacking?
It would be good if someone who has worked on the controller chip could help in this regard.
Hemant.

This is somewhat outside the scope of our software development forums. Your design inquiry will require a closer look by an Intel Product Representative.
If your company has its own Intel representative, you may wish to inquire whether they are able to assist with this inquiry. Your company's Purchasing Department will normally have your Intel representative's contact information. If you have no contact, please see http://www.intel.com/buy/networking/design.htmunder "Design Components".
If your location is not listed, please see an Intel Authorized Distributor and ask for a Field Application Engineer (FAE). Our Intel Authorized Distributor list is also linked from the URL above.
