Over VGA or DVI?

Yes, it appears a lot of people have trouble with pulling the EDID on this model; fortunately, it's a very common model and there are Linux Modelines floating about.

Detailed Timings:
(--) NVIDIA(0): 1680 x 1050 @ 60Hz
(--) NVIDIA(0): Pixel Clock : 146.25 MHz
(--) NVIDIA(0): HRes, HSyncStart : 1680, 1784
(--) NVIDIA(0): HSyncEnd, HTotal : 1960, 2240
(--) NVIDIA(0): VRes, VSyncStart : 1050, 1053
(--) NVIDIA(0): VSyncEnd, VTotal : 1059, 1089
(--) NVIDIA(0): H/V Polarity : -/+

I've also seen

# Modeline "1680x1050@60" 147.14 1680 1784 1968 2256 1050 1051 1054 1087 -HSync +Vsync

Use the Wiki instructions with the following DTD settings (for VGA):

21,39,90,30,62,1A,27,40,68,B0,36,00,00,00,00,00,00,1C,37,01

If that results in a "Out of Range" from your monitor or other icky screen badness, give this one a try:

7A,39,90,40,62,1A,25,40,68,B8,13,00,0000,00,00,00,1C,37,01

Download the 14.29 drivers in .exe format from

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2583&DwnldID=13284&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional〈=eng

Save it to disk. Open it with WinZip and extract to some directory on your hard drive. The .inf file is in

I cannot install it. The setup says "The computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software".

My controller is 82845G, and the setup file is for 82945.

Any other way round?

Ah, I hadn't noticed. You're on an 845 chipset, I mistakenly thought 945. I don't think this method will work with 845-- those chipset resolutions were limited to what was in the BIOS. You might be able to hack the BIOS and get it to work, but that's beyond the scope of what I can offer here.

Anyway, thanks for the help so far.

Looks like I have to buy a new controller.
