Is there a problem with version 1995 of the XDK ?

The last time I used the XDK, about 10 days ago, it worked well. Today, I couln't open any of my projects, even a demo project. The system hung up each time.

I donwloaded the last version (the same that was installed : 1995). I tried the repair option. It didn't solve the problem.
I removed the software, using the installation kit,  before reinstalling it.  The newly installed XDK hangs up when I want to open any project !

What can I do in order to go on developing my app with the XDK ?

This smells like something to do with your login... We had a change in the backend login system that went live today, but the version of the XDK you are using should not have been affected by that change.

Can you log into App Center?

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your answer.
Login into App Center was successful.

I made another test. Again, to launch the XDK, I needed to stop processes node.exe and nw.exe, which still were in memory. At that time,  the crash reporter  displayed “The Intel XDK encountered a problem and must restart”. It restarted and for the first time today, the window “Please sign up for an Intel XDK account” appeared. I tried “Sign up” : I got the form, then I cancelled.  I clicked on Login and I directed the XDK to open a project. The message : Opening project: MVBD... is still displayed without any result.

My problem isn’t solved. Could the backend login system be the cause ? Or what condition in my computer could hinder XDK project opening ?
Is  removing of the XDK software by means of the installation kit not enough before reinstallation ?

Sincerely yours,

Michel K.

I didn't delete my own project but the demo project I created for test purposes. I directed the XDK to create this project again. The XDK hung up, the window "Downloading and creating project : VideoDemo" being displayed. Nevertheless, the project was created !

After having closed the XDK and killed the processes, I reopened the XDK and tried to open this demo project. Again, it didn't succeed.

Use the instructions on this post for a complete uninstall: https://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/topic/542074

Are you using Windows XP? The XDK is not compatible with Windows XP.

Hello Paul,

I followed all your instructions to reinstall the XDK, including replacing the .xdk and .xdke files by the backup files. My project had to be updated. Then, IT COULDN'T BE OPENED, as before. The newly installed XDK hung up !

I tried to open a demo project ; again, the dowloading and creation of the project could'nt be finished.

Could you have a look into my computer, using TeamViewer as one of your colleagues did for correcting an error in my first installation of AppMobi software? I have been using the XDK, without any major problem, since its launching.

Best regards.

Michel K.

When your XDK hangs, does it crash or just hang? In either case, there is an xdk.log file that might provide some insight. Please attach it to this thread.

Make the XDK crash/hang and then find the xdk.log file by doing the following:

$ cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/XDK
$ open .

That will open Finder in the directory that contains the "xdk.log" file. Please attach it to this thread (don't copy the contents into your post, please attach it as a file). I'll see if engineering sees anything obvious. I'm on the west coast of the US, so finding a time to attempt a TeamViewer session might be difficult, let's see if we can get something from the xdk.log file, first.

When I  write "The XDK hung", I mean that nothing took place after display of the message  : "Opening project : name of the project ..." for an existing project  or "Dowloading and creating project: name of the project ..." for a new demo project.

I couldn't use your instructions to find the xdk.log file  ; they might be for Mac Os and not for Windows. Nevertheless, I could locate it in the folder Users/MK/AppData/Local/XDK. I appended it there : 465050

I'm not seeing anything unusual in the log you posted, I'll ask one of the engineers to take a look. Sorry, I mistook and thought you were using a Mac. I may not be able to use TeamViewer to view your screen, due to our firewall, but I can view a screen using Microsoft Lync/Skype or possibly Google Hangouts/Chat. What is your timezone? Your email address implies you are in France, is that correct?

One suggestion is to delete your global-settings.xdk file. Apparently there is an issue where an empty or corrupted global-settings.xdk file will cause the behavior you are seeing. You'll find it in the same place you found the xdk.log file.

Hi Paul,

Yes, I am French and located in a nice western suburb of Paris. I was a system and network engineer at the beginning of my career in software development and new information and communication technologies, before becoming project leader and project manager. Retired since 11 years, I've been working on the history of my village.  Thanks to your software and my past skills, I'am able to develop a mobile app, using geolocation for virtual or real walks through our village and its history.

You don't need to see my screen or files in my computer as you found the issue : I rename the global-settings.xdk file and I could normally open  my project.

Thank you for your support. I will take the opportunity to submit you somme other  issues I am faced to, in order to complete the first phase of my development in the next weeks.

Best regards.

MK
