MonInfo, EDID table and Vista

I've tried posting this with different topics, but no answer. Hopefully this will get me one.

Still can't get 1680x1050 with DG965WH mobo, X3000, VX2235wm and Vista. I tried running MonInfo and noticed something unusual (or maybe not). There were 2 headers I could use to see monitor information. The first, "Viewsonic VX2235on IntelG965 Express Graphics" only showed basic info on the monitor and operating system. No EDID table. There was a second choice from the drop down menu that showed"Viewsonic monitor onAuxilary port". That selection gave me a full screen of info showing all the resolutions for the monitor, a recommended 1680x1050@60MHz and a full EDID table. I did see the string 21,39,90,30,62.........00,00,1C there. Under Display adpater, it showed Adapter description.... auxilary port and adapter ID..... 0x29A28086.

There is only one plug possible to connect the monitor to. Device manager shows the graphics driver as G965 Express with the correct driver version displayed. The monitor and driver are also correct.

I am only guessing, but since MonInfo didn't display this additional information when G965 Express Chipset wasselected, is this maybe why I don't get 1680x1050?But where did the Auxilary port entry come from? That I don't understand. Is this a BIOS issue? A Vista issue? I can't find any info for an auxilary port in either place.

Any help with this and me getting 1680x1050 would be appreciated. I do understand about modifying the .inf file with the above string. I'm just paranoid about doing something that might change the registry and then I can't change it back if something is wrong. My tech skill and knowledge is just high enough to usually get me in trouble when I fool with my computers, although I did build this one from scratch.

Thanks in advance...

Can understand your paranoia, but go ahead and change the registry. Worst case is that you turn the problem DTDs back off again by doing a search for all instances of TotalDTDCount and changing them back to 0.

Thanks for the encouragement. I understand there's a new video driver coming out soon. I'll wait for it and then if that doesn't fix the problem, I'll go for the .inf change by adding the string for the VX2235 and editing DTD to 1. I think I understand that method.

Do you have any idea why I'm getting two options on MonInfo and what does it mean when it tells me my monitor is on "Auxilary port" in the adapter section? Strange that I can see all the video resolutions and EDID table under that entry but only limited monitor and system OS info when I use "Intel G965 Express Graphics".

No clue on that. Sounds bizarre to me.

It's been about 48hrs since I installed the new 15.8 driver. I've tested with about 6 warm restarts and have had 2 cold starts in the mornings and mysteriously, I'm getting a steady1680x1050 without doing anything! This is the first time it's held on a restart. I'll keep my fingers crossed thatit stays that way.

What I see now in graphics properties is not quite the same as I saw before, so I'm assuming something must have been modified in this driver update. Before, when I occasionally saw 1680x1050, it was the "max" display setting I could see on the slider or in the drop down box. Now it's just another resolution in the middle of the field. This is new for me.
