Nehalem always implies EPT support?

While I read in another thread (http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/showthread.php?t=63086) that Nehalem desktop CPUs may have extended page table (EPT) support as part of their virtualization capabilities, it wasn't clear to me from this post whether all Nehalem-based CPUs will have EPT. Will they? For example, will all Nehalem-based Xeons have EPT? If not, is there a list of exactly which processors (if there are any that are not Nehalem-based I would be interested in knowing anyway) support EPT? I have only found a list (http://ark.intel.com/VTList.aspx) of which support virtualization overall.

I was told that EPT is part of the Nehalem core design.

Note: If theNehalem product offering supports VT-x (CPU virtualization), then EPT is supported.

Also note that the platform OEM must provide BIOS supportfor turning the feature on. I was told that most OEMs are doing that now, but this caveat should be mentioned. Try checking the OEM's BIOS documentation for the platform to verify.

Hey David,

Do you know if the Cisco UCS B200 M2 supports EPT? If so does simply enabling VT-x turn on EPT?

Have asked internally about this. Stay tuned.

The online Cisco product literature I have seenon UCS B200 M2 indicates that the product uses Xeon 5600 processors. EPTissupported in this processor line. Yes, look for an Intel VT enable option in the BIOS.
