Other license

When I installed the SDK I agreed to a license that said I would only use a Windows platform.

Yet, I see a sticky post where someone is developing for Linux.  How can a sign that license instead? Way more money to be made pretending to be open source then locking Windows users out of something :)

Hi Mike,

There isn't any other license or SDK for other platforms. The only official SDK for Intel RealSense is for Windows 8.1. That's what everybody is using.

Under other OS, like Linux for example, it is somehow possible to read something out of the camera using standard libraries that allow you to read from a standard webcam, just like you would read from any other camera connected to the PC. There isn't any SDK or anything like that.

I don't get your phrase about making money, open source, and locking out Windows users...

Not sure what license you have, but mine said I would not use the SDK which the camera is part of with any operating system other than Windows. So this person either has a different license or is in violation of the one he has.

My comment was sarcasm. I am sick of all the open source I see that only runs on Unix. And when I see something that is Windows only, that is immediately cracked and used for linux, it bothers me. How long will it be before the Unix only ROS community reaps all the benefits of real sense, and snubs its nose at Windows? Meanwhile, low quality no QA code is rushed to the market, destroying any chance a legitimate software company might have. As a Windows user I am tired of subsidizing and funding the free loaders.

The word Open is used as a marketing lie. Yes, the code is available and I can read it, but that does not mean it is open to run on multiple platforms. It only runs on one of the multiple unix platforms.

I am not sure about what you are talking about here. The Intel RealSense SDK is not open source.

Did you or did you not accept an agreement saying you would only use the SDK which includes the camera on Windows?

As everybody else that participated in the contest, I installed the official Intel RealSense SDK on Windows 8.1, and accepted the license agreement shown there.

I still don't see your point though.
