Performance of 16-bit code in modern x86 processors

Do anyone know the performance of 16-bit code in modern x86 processors? I remember the Pentium Pro from back in 1995 which was the processor that basically revealed the 16-bit code in the "32-bit" Windows 95. In fact, not as well known, but Transmeta ended up being hit by this again in 1998, which delayed it's processor for a year.
