If you look at all of the information that has been posted about different configurations, the advice seems to be "Try it and see what happens". When you do, please report back with your experience.
It has been confirmed through feedback from various tests that:
1. You need a minimum Windows 8.1 64-bit
2. USB 3
I tried the camera on a Mac with VMWare, but it was Windows 7 so it failed.

Hi Marios,
Forum member Dirk in Germany tried running RealSense on his Mac Mini with Bootcamp but had no luck. His specification was Windows 8.1, with an Intel Core i7-2620M CPU running at 2.70GHz.
The problem .he thought, was that his Mac Mini's CPU was classed as a 2nd Generation processor. Intel strongly recommends 4th Generation ones ... 3rd Generation seems to be the minimum that will work.

The deal is that I want to buy a new laptop because I don't have a 4th gen Intel CPU or a USB 3.0 port.
I want to buy a macbook pro which has both, but I don't know if realsense will be ok with it.If not, I have to buy another laptop with winodws 8.

Steve-vink above said on another post:
"I have a Macbook Pro with an i7-4960HQ and 16GB RAM. I have Windows 7 Professional running in VMWare Fusion.. So I can confirm - I have a fully functional camera running on a 4th generation processor, and it will not register in Windows 7. That is what the specification states, but it's good to confirm that this is not a specification that can be worked around. Incidentally the microphone registers, but the camera / sensors do not."
So Steve, who will probably see this message since he posted a reply here a bit earlier, would be a better person than me to talk to about Macbook compatibility :)

If you are going to spin up a VM then why not try Windows 10 rather than 8.1?

Because I do have a key for Win 8 (educational use) but now for Windows 10.Either way If it works with windows 8.1 it will work with win10 I guess.
I just want to know if I will be ok with macbook or not(either with vmware or bootcamp windows)

Hi Marios,
If you have a key for Windows 8 and not Windows 8.1 then you have to go through an upgrade process. Windows 10 preview is free and by all accounts the SDK works with it.
As for running the SDK on a VM it will really depend just how good the USB redirection is. The minimum risk solution has to be running the SDK on a native Windows 8.1 PC. If you want to buy a MacBook Pro then buy a MacBook Pro but be prepared for the SDK not being supported on a VM. Of course if someone else tries it and reports back that would give you the answer you need.
Apologies if this seems unhelpful.
