Reinstalling the program

I had a fairly severe system crash recently, and need to reinstall my fortran compiler. I originally bought a DEC version 5 compiler, and upgraded this to version 6 when that release came out. When Compaq bought DEC, they upgraded to version 6.1. Because I have proceeded on to each new compiler as an upgrade, I suspect that I'm looking at a process of installing each in order of acquisition. Is there a relatively clean way to do this that will minimize the amount of junk I have on the system when I am through?

I'm assuming that you have the 6.0 upgrade as a complete kit (came with manuals, etc.) and the 6.1 upgrade was either a download or the CD bought from SciTech International.

You don't have to install 5.0. Install the 6.0 CD - it will ask you for the 6.0 serial number and then the 5.0 serial number. Once that's done, install the 6.1 upgrade. You won't have junk lying around after that.
