Hi everyone,
I have created a special version of my company's RealSense game project that only contains our camera-powered avatar, and I'm making it available for download as a standalone Unity application so that other RealSense developers can try it out and see what is possible with the camera. We feel that this hands-on experience will help the community far more than watching a video.
There are a few things to please bear in mind:
* Because the avatar is outside of the game world, its limbs move faster than they normally would. The limbs therefore only require very small hand movements to produce a large movement.
* Though we have included the latest version of our bendable avatar fingers, they are currently prone to the joints going out of position sometimes. This will be fixed in the final release.
* The collision detection below stomach level is still erratic, so please forgive the demo if the arms pass through the body when at that low height.
* Face animation is a work in progress, especially the mouth, and will become much better in the next couple of months before the game's release.
You can download the demo as a zipped folder from the link below.
http://sambiglyon.org/sites/default/files/Sambiglyon-Avatar.zip
After downloading, please unzip the folder and open it and launch the 'My-Fathers-Face.exe' Unity application file to run the demo.
We welcome feedback on the demo in this forum post. Thanks!
EDIT: An updated version of the avatar was uploaded a few hours after the original publishing of this post, with significantly updated structural stability. The latest version is in the zip file above.
CONTROLS
Push one hand palm towards the camera to control one arm.
Push both palms towards the camera to control both arms. Move one hand in front of the other (right in front of left, or left in front of right) to prioritize which arm you want to control.
Move the hands left and right whilst the palms are facing towards the camera to swing the arm left and right.
Move the palms up and down to lift the arms up and down.
Turn the head left and right to turn the head left and right
Open and close the mouth to open and close the avatar mouth (this feature currently only works when the face is a very specific "sweet spot" distance from the camera)
Open and close the fingers of the real-life left and right hands to open and close the fingers on the respective avatar hands.
