Hi Jimmy,
in the "Advanced Configuration Guide for MPSS" ( http://registrationcenter.intel.com/irc_nas/2929/MPSS_Boot_Config_Guide.pdf ), in Section 3.4.3.5 ("External Bridge Topology") they mention a network configuration of the host system with bridging. This is similar to setting up a bridge for a virtual machine. The result of this configuration is that each Xeon Phi coprocessor on the host obtains an IP address on the host's network. After that, Xeon Phi coprocessors in different nodes on the network can ping each other, connect via ssh, MPI, or any other network protocol. Routing is not involved here, everything happens on the same network.
