Why did intel get rid of the unique installation directories for compilers

I just installed CompserXE 2011.2.137 (C and Fortran) on my system. When I did this I found that the installation process left stuff all over /opt/intel. Yes, the compiler was installed in a unique directory(composerxe-2011.2.137), but the install process left bunches of links, a separate non-unique directory(composerxe-2011 and composerxe) in the /opt/intel directory.

Why did Intel choose to do this over just installing the compiler in its own directory like 9.x,10.x, and 11.xdid? I think I was one of many 5+ years ago who requested the compilers go in unique directories. While the uniqueness is still there, it is very messy.

Yes, I removed all the extra directories and links besides composerxe-2011.2.137, but I shouldn't have to do this. I looked around the install.sh file, but didn't see an obvious option to prevent the extra stuff.

I don't know for sure why the 'bunches of links' get installed. I suspect someone thought it would make things easier. An option in the install to turn this off should you want to sounds like a reasonable request. I'll file it as a feature request.
