It shouldn't "harm" your hardware. It should work with a software emulation mode. Probably slower than if you had dedicated hardware virtualizationsupport

Not having hardware virtualization support is not a problem if you are running a personal system.Hardware virtualization is only a requirement for a server running multiple VMs.
