This topic might have been beaten to the ground ever since the advent of the i3, i5, and i7 Intel processors, but what are the differences between them. I'm asking specifically because I'm looking around at laptops with i5's and i7's and i5's base speed tend be 2.0Ghz and faster, while i7's base speeds are 1.6Ghz. Why not the other way around with i7's having the faster base speed?

The Intel Software Network forumsfocus on software development issues, but to compare the specs (although not the rationale behind them), you can refer to: http://processorfinder.intel.com/
