Reading QPI-Speed with pcm-power

Hi,

I am trying to figure out the possibilities with pcm-power- like reading QPI-link-speed. I am using OpenSUSE 12.1 (kernel 3.1.9) on Supermicro Boards, currently X9DAE with E5-2690.
What does "QPI LL counter programming seems not to work" mean?

Regards,
Michael!

Hi Michael,

it seems that the BIOS on your system does not expose the QPI Link Layer Performance hardware monitors (QPI LL - described in Section 2.7 of the Intel Xeon Processor E5-2600 Product Family Uncore Performance Monitoring Guide). Please consult with your board vendor how these QPI monitoring devicescan be enabled in the BIOS.

Best regards,
Roman

This sounds interesting. I can test Iron Pass Board as well, if you want me to see if this behaves differently

I got 1 Step further, I enabled Uncore Thermal Management of the CPU in Bios:

Advanced -> Thermal Configuration -> Thermal Management: Enabled

But the tool doesn't recognize this board as dual socket.

Michael,

thanks for your feedback. We are investigating the issue.

PCMreads system CPUtopology from/proc/cpuinfo file in Linux. Could you please share your /proc/cpuinfo file?

Hello Roman, I am facing the same problem while running the pcm power tool on a Dell PowerEdge M620 - CentOS release 6.2 with kernel version 3.5.0+. I can't seem to find anything related to QPI performance monitoring in BIOS. Here are the outputs of pcm-power.x, lspci, ls -al /dev/mem and dmidecode

Hello!

Roman Dementiev, please help me because I have same problem but on Intel motherboard, S2600CP, it's not a brand server, we buyed motherboard separatedly. I can't monitor QPI link load.

Using PCM on your system might have a performance impact as per http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/performance-impact-when-sampling-certain-llc-events-on-snb-ep-with-vtune
You can avoid the performance impact by using the option --noJKTWA, however the cache metrics might be wrong then.

Hi,

does a mother board of the family Intel S2600CO (S2600COE) support the QPI LL counters ? The CPUs are two E5-2690v2. The Bios was updated to support  Ivy bridge processors. I didn't find any possibility to switch the export of performance monitoring devices in BIOS.

Thank's

Dmitry
