802.11ax support at AX200 at Russia

I'm use Notebook with AX200 adapter, but with new installed Cisco 9120AX AP, cannot connect at 802.11ax speed from Win10 2004 (with latest 22.0.0.6 driver) and Linux kernel 5.8+.

With old kernel - 5.7 - adapter connecting with 802.11ax modulation.

I'm see this commit at 5.8 kernel:

https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/linux-wireless/patch/iwlwifi.20200508170402.c3e50c36c628.I991bfa662c0ef35de5be9eaf5b78ef190b67cb56@changeid/

But now 802.11ax officially supported and allowed at Russia country (see regulator Minkovsvyaz letter number 321 from 06.07.2020).

Why firmware continue disable 802.11ax part at fresh driver?

Hello Ru_balt,

Thank you very much for your patience on this. After checking internally, we can say that 802.11ax was disabled on this adapter in Russia due to the regional regulatory limitations. Wifi6 frequencies were allowed on the territory of the Russian Federation in August 2020, and the 802.11ax on AX200 is planned to be enabled.

It will require a software update that will be provided by Original Equipment Manufacturers. We don't have the estimated time currently. In this case, the best course of action will be to contact ACER so they can provide you with the estimated date or more information about it in your specific system.

Hello Ru_balt,

Thank you for posting on the Intel* Communities.

To better assist you, please provide us with the below information:

  • To understand your issue, are you able to use the 2.4GHz network but not the 5GHz one?, Is the card completely disabled?
  • Are you able to see any error message on the device manager under "Network Adapters"? If so, please provide details.
  • Is this an integration you made to your system or it came as part of the notebook?

Please run the following tool in Windows* and attach the report generated.

Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU)

  • Intel® SSU Download
  • Open the application and click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel® SSU will take you to the "Summary View".
  • Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
  • To save your scan, click on "Next", then "Save".

Adapter work at all network (2.4/5GHz).

Problem  - no 802.11AX at Windows and Linux 5.8+ kernel

Test with notebook with 802.11ax adapter (Intel AX200) - MAC - b89a.2a53.d36a

1 - Win10 2004, Driver 22.0.0.6 - AC connect
2 - Fedora 23, Kernel 5.7.15 - AX connect (any version below 5.7 work too (checked with 5.4,5.6 kernel)
3 - Fedora 23, Kernel 5.8.15 - only AC connect

  • Are you able to see any error message on the device manager under "Network Adapters"? If so, please provide details.

No messages, adapter work.

  • Is this an integration you made to your system or it came as part of the notebook?

Yes, this is bundled with notebook Intel AX200.

Main problem, disabled 802.11ax support at Russia country at latest driver, but official document allowed usage of 802.11ax equipement at this country published at August 2020 (see attach - Russian Goverment Document - Russian Language only)

At attach SSU from notebook.

All other equipement work with this 802.11ax AP at 802.11ax (Wifi6) speed (iPhone/Samsung phone).

Thanks for info, OEM (Acer) not modify driver for this card.

Will wait official driver refresh with unlocked 802.11ax modulation.
