Hi,
We are trying to get fast roaming, 80211.r, working for our devices.
As far as we can tell we have enabled the necessary fast roaming features, but we are getting an error from low level wifi drivers when fast roaming is attempted.
Error:
wpa_supplicant[4630]: nl80211: kernel reports: key not allowed
wpa_supplicant[4630]: nl80211: set_key failed; err=-67 Link has been severed

Does anyone know what is required to get Fast Roaming working with the Intel AX210 chip on Linux?

Hello mwest,
Thank you for posting in Intel community Forum.
For me to further check this, please help provide the following details:
- Did you manually install the AX210 on Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin?
- If yes, can you also share if the AX210 is an OEM unit from a different brand?
- Is this your first integration or was it working fine before?
- Can you also share why are you building this system?
If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.
Best regards,

Hi Michael,
- The card was manually installed by us, into a M2 slot on a carrier for the Orin.
- The card is manufactured by Intel.
- This has never worked, we have tried different devices and different cards. Everything else seems to work as expected though, we are only seeing the mentioned issue when attempting fast roaming.
- It's for a mobile system, fast roaming between WiFi access points is desirable.
Best regards, mwest

Hello mwest,
Thank you for the update
Let ask more details about this set up:
- What is the brand and model of the motherboard or system that you are using?
- Can you show some photos of the system?
- Have you also tried the Intel AX210 on a different system?
If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.
Best regards,

Hi Mike,
1. As mentioned we are running a Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin
2. I'm unfortunately not able to show system photos
3. We have tried the same type of card on different similar systems
However, as pointed out, this all works fine except when we enable fast roaming.
My question here really is what combination of Linux kernel, wifi drivers, wpa_supplicant or IWD and what configuration is required for these components to make fast roaming work?
There are no issues with the chip, or the other HW, it very much seems to be a driver / firmware / kernel problem.
Best regards,
Marius
