Bluetooth mouse not waking computer

Hi

Having an issue with Logitech MX Anywhere 3S mouse not waking the computer. The keyboard MX Keys S, which I bought as a combo with the mouse, from Logitech, wakes the computer. Both are connected via bluetooth and not the Logibolt. I am running windows 11 on a Dell XPS8940 computer.

I changed settings in Device manager for the mouse and keyboard to allow them to wake the computer. No change

I checked powercfg to ensure devices are listed and they were as well as Intel Wireless Bluetooth Adapter.

I checked Device Manager-->bluetooth-->Intel wireless bluetooth settings and the Allow this device to wake computer was greyed out/not available.

This was interesting because the keyboard attached to this wireless adapter turns computer on from sleep but the mouse does not.

I went to Logitech and their chat bot just spewed out a lot of directions which were telling me to check the settings I have already checked above.

I must be missing something. Thoughts? Thanks

Thanks for the detailed post.

To help narrow this down further, please provide the following information:

  1. Did this ever work before? If yes, what are the changes made to the system?

  2. What is the exact Intel Wireless adapter you have? You can provide a screenshot of your Device Manager showing the adapter details under the Network Adapter section.

  3. What BIOS version are you currently running on your Dell XPS 8940?

  4. Are there any pending Windows currently waiting to be installed on your system?

This will help determine whether this is a driver, BIOS, or device-specific issue.

Thanks for the reply! Answers:

1. Yes this worked before when I was using the logibolt adapter (not bluetooth option). As best as I can recall, the only change I made was going from usb to bluetooth. I do recall an Intel update occurred in and around the same time.

2. Screenshot from device manager

3. BIOS version/Date: Dell Inc. 2.27.1, 2025-04-03

There is also an SMBIOS version 3.2 given, if applicable.

4. No Windows updates pending.

Since the MX Keys S can wake the PC but the MX Anywhere 3S can't, it sounds more like a mouse/Windows Bluetooth wake limitation than an issue with the Intel adapter itself.

I'd check Power Management for the mouse under Device Manager and make sure "Allow this device to wake the computer" is enabled. If it already is, try updating the Intel Bluetooth driver from Dell's support page and the Logitech mouse firmware.

You can also run powercfg /devicequery wake_armed and see if the mouse is actually listed as a wake-capable device. If it's not listed, Windows may simply not be allowing that Bluetooth mouse to wake the system.

Thanks but I literally listed all your suggestions in my initial post as what I have done to fix the problem.

Thanks for providing the requested information.

Please try the steps below:

Please perform a Clean Installation of Bluetooth Drivers. This is to remove any previous installation files that might cause conflicts with new driver installations.

Step 1: Download the Latest Available Driver

Download and save the latest Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650i Bluetooth driver from the Dell Website.

Step 2: Uninstall the Bluetooth driver.

  1. Go to Device Manager.

  2. Expand the Network Adapters category.

  3. Right-click your Intel Bluetooth and choose to uninstall it.

  4. Make sure to the option to Delete the driver software for this device is selected.

  5. Repeat steps A through D until the the option to Delete the driver software for this device is greyed out.

  6. Restart your computer.

Step 3: Driver installation.
Locate the driver you downloaded back in Step 1. Right-click the file you downloaded and select the option to Run as administrator.

Step 4: Cold Reboot

  • Perform a Cold reboot of the system after reinstalling the driver.

If the issue persists, please try installing the latest Intel® Wireless Bluetooth® driver 24.60.0 and repeat the Clean Driver Installation process outlined above.

If the issue still continues, go to Device Manager > Mice and Other Pointing Devices > HID-Compliant Mouse > Properties > Power Management and verify that Allow this device to wake the computer is enabled and not greyed out.

Thanks for the above. However, issue persists, with a couple of questions that popped up.

First, following instructions to remove the bluetooth driver there's mention of the Killer wifi and intel bluetooth. I opened the Network section, and found the killer wifi driver but no intel bluetooth. Assumed you meant the wifi driver so I focused on that. Am I to delete the INtel bluetooth in the bluetooth section as well?

When I did that, the language was a bit different from the "Delete the driver software for this device" in the instructions. It said "Attempt to remove the driver for this device". I did that and restarted.\

The restart was as has been  (i.e. mouse doesn't wake computer) but I noticed that the mouse, which was connected to bluetooth, which supposedly was removed, still worked. Connection should have been lost, no? I carried on reinstalling the driver to no avail but found it odd that a bluetooth  mouse was working with no bluetooth driver.

Anyway, reran instructions above and read below that the "driver can't be removed if other devices are using it". Followed a link to connections by driver and it seemed like a 100 different connections were listed. Am I meant to turn off/disconnect all? To be honest, a lot of what was listed was unrecognizable to me.

And that's kind of where we are now. I downloaded the other driver you linked and it didn't install/show up in device manager but the killer driver did. Also, I don't know if Dell would support that driver when they are updating drivers.

As mentioned, issue persists. Thanks

Since the keyboard can wake the PC but the MX Anywhere 3S can't, even though both use Bluetooth, it may be a limitation with how Windows handles wake support for that specific mouse. I'd check powercfg -devicequery wake_armed and see if the mouse itself appears there. If it doesn't, the Bluetooth adapter being wake-enabled doesn't necessarily mean every paired Bluetooth device can wake the PC.

You could also try removing and re-pairing the mouse, then check for any Dell BIOS, Intel Bluetooth, and Logitech firmware updates. If the mouse still doesn't appear as a wake-capable device, it may simply not support waking the system through its current Bluetooth connection.

Thanks

Interesting development: notified (by Intel) of and ran an update for the killer wifi adapter. No change to waking computer issue but now, the keyboard also doesn't wake the computer where it did before. All Dell and Logitech updates are up to date.

TechrepairDFW, please check the syntax of the powercfg line you sent me. the forward slash was changed to a hyphen when I checked the line online. Regardless, it showed the following:

HID keyboard (002)

HID Compliant mouse (001)

Killer E2600 Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Not sure what this means but thanks for the help!

So, in all the reading going from site to site to find an answer to why and how to fix, and spending what is becoming way too much time on trying to get a mouse shake to bring a computer out of sleep mode, it comes across pretty clearly that this adapter is not a very good one with many issues identified.

Rather than trying to band-aid a suspect piece of hardware/software, can anyone offer a suggestion as to a good replacement that would be compatible with the Dell XPS8940 desktop?

After further checking, we've identified that the issue appears to be related to Operating System, Power settings, Bluetooth radio/driver support, or Overall system configuration.

To further isolate the issue, please try using the wireless USB receiver by plugging the receiver into a USB port on your computer. For guidance, please refer to this link: Getting Started – MX Anywhere 3 Wireless Mouse. For other troubleshooting steps, please check Dell Support as well.

You've also asked about a compatible replacement device for your Dell XPS 8940 desktop. Since this is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) device, Dell is in the best position to provide accurate and specific recommendations. Hence, please reach out directly to Dell Support.

Thank you.
