Continued connection problems N-7260

I have a Samsung 940x with windows 10 (updated from 8.1). The N-7260 driver version is 17.15.0.5. I am experiencing what can best be described as consistently erratic wifi connection problems. I have read a number of the posts commenting on this. Is there a known fix for this now? My experience is that stability seems to get worse, not better.

Jonr,

As you may know already, the driver version you have informed above (17.15.0.5) are the inbox driver provided by Windows*10. This worked for a while, but for no apparent reason I am now unable to connect to any wireless network, including at home. I have installed the latest driver and the adapter seems to see all available connections, but is unable to connect to them. Windows 10 just gives me the message, "can't connect to this network" without any further explanation.

Since I am now forced to using a wired connection I sometimes get a wireless connection after unplugging the wired, but it only holds for 30 seconds or so and then drops it and I am unable to get back on.

Can you help?

Thanks

jonr,

Is this wireless adapter native to the system or was it installed later? If your wireless adapter is native to the system, we recommend that you contact the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support first to obtain the latest drivers first. *Their latest drivers may be different from those found in our download center.

Have you checked your antivirus and firewall settings as depending on the type of configuration it they have, it may impact your connection.

Does any other computer connect to your network? You may try the following simple steps regarding your OS:

1 - Click Close.

2 - Clcik view connection settings.

3 - Click Manage known network.

4 - Select your Network

5 - Click forget Network. Do this to all saved network.

6 - It is also important to check your router configurations and see if there is any firmware update.

You can also do the following in case the issue still persist after you tried the OEM's drivers.

Which of these two do you have installed: Intel(R) Wireles-N 7260 or the Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-N 7260?

We have just come up with the latest drivers for these adapters.

For the Intel® Wireless-N 7260 : http://https//downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25513/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-for-Windows-10 Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software for Windows® 10 File name: Wireless_18.21.0_e164.exe

For the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260 : https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25513/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-for-Windows-10 Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software for Windows® 10 File name: Wireless_18.21.0_e164.exe

1 - Install and save one of those according to your Wireless Adapter.

2 - Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and Uninstall "Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software", if it is installed. When prompted, choose the option to "Discard settings".

3 - In Control Panel, Device Manager, Network Adapters, right click on the Intel® Wireless Adapter and Uninstall it. Make sure you mark the option to "Delete the driver software for this device".

4 - Reboot the PC or scan for hardware changes, check device manager and if an older driver is detected and installed, repeat the actions to uninstall and delete it as well. Repeat this process until the OS does not allow deleting the driver, or until the controller shows as Unknown Device.

5 - Install the Intel® Wireless driver. During the first steps of PROSet/Wireless installation, make sure to customize the installation and install all the 3 driver components

Thank you Aleki,

I noticed that there was a new driver released on 11.9, the 18.21.0_ version. I downloaded that and things are working fine now, and the speed is decent. I guess there must have been some incompatibility between Windows 10 updates and the previous driver.

Hello aleki_intel and other Intel colleagues,

It seems that the various issues with the N-7260 wireless adapters that have prevailed over the last 18 months or so span HP, Toshiba and Samsung high end laptops to name but three! So it would seem to me that is is very unlikely, nay implausible, that the fundemental issues of connectivity, stability and bandwidth lie with the various manufacturers / models ranges / integration. It is very likely that they lie with the Intel adapter hardware or firmware / drivers.

I and I guess many other visitors to this forum etc would like to understand what steps Intel is actually taking to fix these long standing issues with this adapter?

I am currently using 18.21.0.2 and do I have a stable connection using my N-7260 on a $1,800 Toshiba P70-A laptop but only using g i.e. 54 Mbs!!

What diagnostic and other support is being provided to better understand these issues or does Intel already have a developed understanding of the root cause(s)? I volunteer my support to any Intel engineer will to engage to understand more.

Kind regards

Martyn

Bandolier1,

We are constantly working to improve our drivers. However, it is important that you know that when an OEM buys our adapters to integrate with their systems, they suffer customizations such as change in voltage, features...etc, in order to be compatible with an specific system and for that, they develop their own drivers. As you may know, our drivers found in our https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/75174/Intel-Wireless-N-7260 Download Center are generic and may or may not work taking into consideration the modifications done by the OEM.

We do not support integration, you can find more about this here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005687.html?wapkw=regulatory+information+regarding+hardware+installation Regulatory Information Regarding Hardware Installation or Upgrade for... and http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005846.html Why Your Laptop Doesn't Recognize Your New Intel® Wireless Adapter... which is when the original wireless adapter is replaced by another one that may not meet the requirements of the system.

Please, if you are experiencing any issue with you Intel Wireless Adapter, please let us know so we can provide you assistance.
