Help with Windows 8 Intel My WiFi Dashboard

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping this is a relatively easy fix, but I guess we'll see. I got Windows 8 Pro through my school, and now I can't seem to figure out how this new dashboard for windows 8 works. I downloaded the windows 8 dashboard from intel, but when I open it up, the only option that is available to me is the do not disturb option, and it isn't in the lite version, so I guess I'm not sure how to get my devices to pick this up again since I don't have wireless and hotspot switches on my dashboard anymore :/

Its alright. I have managed to add the registry tweak but still there is no option of 'running from local disk' during the install. Also, when you say 'you'll get the 'Run as Administrator context menu' you mean i should install as an administrator or does that context menu come up automatically somewhere during the installation process? I have tried running the install as an admin(by right clicking the msi file) but still that option of 'running from local disk' does not appear anywhere. What version of pro-set are you using?

Update

With Windows 7 it worked. Once i added the registry tweak, a pro-set window prompt came up and asked to me accept an agreement to do with ' Intel Pro-Set Hot spot'. Can't remember exactly what it was. I installed the WiFi dashboard and all the controls were present.

Maybe am missing some files in Windows 8(maybe runtime libraries or something).

no no.. it should work with Win8. I'm using Windows 8 Pro x64 and it worked. Setting up the hot spot was a failure. I can't share my internet connection. everything else, all fine.

remember to manually select (run as admin) from context menu. unlike other installations, user elevation won't initiate automatically. do the following steps.

And, sorry if i misguided you, there won't be a "Run from local disk" in dashboard installation. You've to install the latest wifi drivers which can be downloaded from intel (PROSet/Wireless). In that installation, you'll see the Custom option, and select all components run from local disk. (it is necessary to setup the hot spot), then install dashboard and you'll see the hot spot option.

Look at that screenshot. I have already added the registry tweak and am running the install as an admin. Does it look okay?

Update

Let me download the latest drivers and see what happens.

Using a Intel N-6235 card with a DN2800MT motherboard with a fresh Windows 8 install using the Intel PROset/Wireless Software 15.6.1 and My WiFi Dashboard 15.05.5000.0219, I end up with the lite version of My WiFi Dashboard with no option for local Hotspot.

Everything looks good in device manager

So Please tell me Intel what am I doing wrong?

Word from Intel rep in another post dated July 2013: Full Dashboard with hotspot etc DOES NOT WORK in Win8 ... YET! New software in the works, but no release date.

I wonder if the new PROSet installers 16.1.1 (exe) and 16.1.3 (zip) released in the past month may do the trick for Win8. It would be great if they would help me out with my Win7 setup running with Intel N-1030 chip. So far, none of the PROSet installers with My Wifi Tech "built-in" have worked at all for me. I either get no Dashboard at all, or at best the no-hotspot Lite version.

This workaround will not help with Win8, but it did do the trick with Win7. See my post about how to install v15.2.0 to get Full Dashboard with hotspot capability:

/message/204377?tstart=0# 204377 http://communities.intel.com/message/204377?tstart=0# 204377

Win8 users might try the same procedure but substitute PROSet and Dashboard versions 15.5.6 or 15.6.0 to see what happens. Just be sure always to use installers with the exact same version number, or you can be certain it will fail!

Download links for these versions can be found in my post (see link above).
