Hi guys!

I have a HP ENVY dv6-7214nr Notebook with a Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter that I want to replace it for a dual band Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 WLAN. My system has an Intel i7-3940XM processor. I would like to know if this Wi-Fi adapter works on this system.

Thanks,

Erick

Hello Erick1967,

The best source to determine compatibility of your computer with any Intel® Wireless Adapter is the manufacturer of your computer.

Before installing this device into a system, we advise you to contact the manufacturer of the system, and determine if the product is approved for use in a specific system in your country.

We would like to add that Installing or upgrading the various Intel wireless adapters by end users is not supported by Intel. They should only be installed by the manufacturer or its authorized representative.

Doing a quick check of the http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03591281 HP ENVY dv6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide, in page 67, the Intel® Centrino Advanced-N 6230 is listed as a spare (OEM spare part number 670691-001). So it would be good to contact http://support.hp.com/us-en/ HP Support for further details.

Hello Jonathan, I already had asked to HP for compatibility but they were not clear with answers because one guy told it will run because is listed on manteinance guide, and other one told me that my processor is problematic and there is no whitelist for the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 in my system. So I was confused and decided to ask you looking for another option that works in my laptop.

In Maintenance and Service Guide the Intel Core i7-3940XM is not shown on the list, the closest one is the Intel Quad Core i7-3840QM.

I'm a little frustrated because I really want to change the Wi-Fi adapter and don't find options.

Thank you.

Since Intel Wireless Adapters are meant to be installed from factory by the manufacturer, or by an authorized service provider, we advise you to confirm with the OEM about this.

Based on the Maintenance and Service Guide, the spare part from HP can be used in your PC, and a service provider should be able to help with that.

If the CPU upgrade was also a custom installation, then the OEM (HP) would be the one to determine the implications of that upgrade.

Please check the following documents for more information about regulations and compatibility issues that may arise from custom integrations:
