lspci:

03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless-AC 9462

I tried to install Ubuntu Server 20.04 on Intel NUC 10, but I couldn't make wireless card AX201 work properly under linux. I tried multiple linux distros (ubuntu server/desktop, mint, arch) and have exact same error message in dmesg log, the only difference was firmware version. The card listed as AC9464 under lspci but it's not correct, hower when iwlwifi tries to load firmware it's detected correctly as AX201. I also tried different kernel versions, 5.2, 5.4, 5.6 but got same errors in dmesg. I think the problem is that card detected incorrectly.

I tried to search in Google about this problem, I found some posts with exact same problem (on some Linux distros forums and here on intel wireless subforum), but no one found solution or even workaround (the oldest one is posted near one year ago and the most recent one is posted around a month ago, so seems no one has plans to fix that).

Does anyone know solution? Is this iwlwifi driver/linux kernel problem? Do we have any chance that it can be fixed in future? The problem is also that AX201 wireless card soldered on NUC mainboard, if it was a card, I would simple swap it to some more Linux-friendly solution.

Hello darkdelirium,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

Intel does not test and validate Intel® NUC on Linux, however we know that a lot of NUC owners are using it successfully on many different Linux distros with no issues.

Intel suggests you check your Linux distro's website and forums in the following link for peer assistance with this issue.

In case you are interested, I would like to share with you the list of validated operating systems for different NUC models.

However, this is a really interesting behavior and I will be more than glad to check what could be possibly causing this behavior.

I would appreciate if you could run the following tool and attach the reports generated:

Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) for Linux* Download link

1. Open the application and click on "Scan" to see the system and device information.

2. By default, Intel® SSU will take you to the "Summary View".

3. Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".

4. To save your scan, click on "Next", then "Save".

I will be waiting for your response.

Thanks for your answer.

I fixed this problem by updating BIOS to the latest version (F7 during boot and select new firmware that I have on usb drive from Intel website) and resetting BIOS settings after that. After I've done it, I reboot to Ubuntu Live and it shows correctly.

Don't know why I got this weird bug.

Hello darkdelirium,

I am glad to know that you were able to resolve this behavior by updating your system BIOS to the latest version.

As the bug is no longer showing we will proceed with the closure of your inquiry.

If you need any additional information, please submit a new question as this thread will no longer being monitored
