Intel ProSet/Wireless Zero Configuration Service Calling-Home?

Has anyone encountered the ZeroConfigService or "Intel ProSet/Wireless Zero Configuration Service" calling home to an outside Internet site on a frequent basis?

Any idea or explanation as to what this 'call home' or outbound connection is for?

Outbound Protocol: TCP/443 HTTPS

Destination Host: dapi.ds-intel.net

HTTP User Agent: Devicescape-Agent/2.0.999

The domain name ds-intel.net seems to be registered privately with Network Solutions on behalf of a company called DeviceScape

Is this part of the "Smart Connect" functionality mentioned below?

Hello afl-tech,

This is related to the new Intel® WiFi Hotspot Assistant feature. It automatically connects the system to a nearby WiFi hotspot that is certified by DeviceScape's Easy WiFi* network if no preferred networks are available.

It is not exactly part of Intel® Smart Connect Technology, it is a different feature; however, it may take advantage of Intel® Smart Connect (if the system supports it) by connecting periodically to such hotspot network from sleep (S3) to a low power state in order to check for updates at a user-configured time.
