Hi,

Recently my laptop (HP ZBook Fury 16 G10 Mobile) received an update of the firmware by HP (version 01.06.03 Rev.A).

After this update the driver for the WiFi fails to load and reports the following error:

Hello Tismo,

Thank you for posting in Intel community Forum.

For me to further check this, please help provide the following details:

  1. When did you purchase this unit?
  2. Was it working fine before?
  3. Did you change any settings before the issue started?
  4. Did you upgrade the Wireless card or this is embedded in this system?
  5. Can you share link of the driver that you used?

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hi Michael,

  1. The laptop was purchased at 2024-07-31
  2. Yes it was and within Windows 11 it is still working properly (the laptop is a dual boot with windows 11 and Ubuntu)
  3. No, changes to the settings, only a firmware upgrade was done and new drivers where installed on windows 11
  4. A firmware upgrade was done and new drivers where installed on windows 11
  5. https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp154001-154500/sp154263.exe (firmware update was done by windows itself in the update process but based upon the version I expected this to be the file used for it)
  6. The following version of the iwlwifi module is used:

$ modinfo iwlwifi | grep version
srcversion: 2553DA4DACB6342A2AD9180
vermagic: 6.8.0-47-generic SMP preempt mod_unload modversions

In the meantime I also tried different distributions of linux to see whether they correctly loaded the iwlwifi module but they didn't. I tried the following:

  • ubuntu-24.10-desktop-amd64
  • Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-40-1.14

Let me know if you need more information.

Tismo

Hello Tismo,

Thank you for the update.

Let me gather these additional details about this one.

  1. My question before is did you install this AX211 to this laptop or this is the embedded/onboard wireless controller?
  2. Since it is working fine with Windows, that means that the wireless card is not faulty. Did you check with HP if the laptop is validated for Ubuntu?
  3. Can you share the link of the driver that you installed?

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hi Michael,

  1. The wireless controller is onboard of the laptop.
  2. I didn't check this explicitly with HP, but I would expect it as they deliver a software package for it.
  3. I didn't install a specific driver yet so the driver which is included in Ubuntu 24.04 is used.

Do you mean I need to open a support case for further investigation?

Let me know if you need more information.

Tismo

Hello Tismo,

Thank you for the update.

The instruction to create a new thread is for the other user who posted that he is having the same issue so that we can gather the specific details of his system.

As for your system, let me check. You mentioned that HP has a software package for this system for Ubuntu, does it include a driver for you to install?

And also, Intel has a generic driver that you can try as well. Here is the link:

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hello everybody whom might have the same issue,

I managed to get my wifi adapter working again in linux.

I took the following steps and that seem to have resolved it:

  1. I switched off the Wifi adapter in the BIOS and reboot the laptop.
  2. Turned off the laptop
  3. Unplugged the power supply
  4. Pressed the power button for a long time (the laptop lights up, but I kept pressing it, the light goes off again) after a while I released it
  5. Waited
  6. The laptop boots by itself and shows a screen which says firmware is being updated
  7. It reboots and again shows a screen which says firmware is being updated
  8. It reboots and boots linux
  9. I reboot the laptop and switch on the Wifi adapter (and Bluetooth) again in the BIOS
  10. When I boot into linux now the adapter works correctly

I guess I accidentally forced the Laptop to re-apply initial settings or reset settings.

This at least worked for my HP laptop with BIOS version 01.11.01 on it.

Look here for more information in case HP might have replied on another post of me here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/AX211-160MHz-Ubuntu-24-04-loading-Driver-fails-with-error/m-p/9604286/highlight/true#M57463
