Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6E AX211 160MHz model does not connect to the 6 GHz band

On the Wi-Fi network, I have 27 CW9166I access points and 4 CW9178I access points with the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz channels enabled. The firmware is MR 32.1.6, and the SSID is WPA3.

The laptops are HP ProBook 440 14-inch G9 Notebooks, running Windows 11 version 23H2. The BIOS is updated to the latest version: U85 Ver. 01.17.00. The Wi-Fi card is an Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 160MHz, with driver version 24.20.2.1 (11/02/2026).

Card configuration:

- Preferred band: 6 GHz

- Ultra High Band: Enabled

- This card does not have an option to modify power saving settings.

I have reviewed similar cases in MERAKI, INTEL, and HP, and they all coincide with updating to Windows 11, updating the BIOS, updating the card driver, and disabling power saving on the card (in this case, I don't have it enabled).

It does not connect to the 6 GHz band.

Command:

- netsh wlan show interface:

Interface on the system:

Hello Arnulfo_Cruz,

Thank you for posting on Intel Community Forum.

Based on the information you shared, I can see you're experiencing a specific issue where your Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 160MHz card is not connecting to the 6 GHz band despite having 6 GHz access points available.

Please be informed that regulatory bodies in some countries prohibit using the 6 GHz band. It also may not be enabled on your platform by the system manufacturer. Intel recommends checking if your country's regulations allow the usage of the 6 GHz band and if the system manufacturer has enabled devices to support the 6 GHz band in your country.

For more information, you can check our public article here: How to Enable 6 GHz Band Using Intel® Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 Products

Please also share the additional information below for further investigation.

1. Is this the original adapter that came pre-installed in your system, or have you changed/installed a new adapter recently?

2. Are there any error when attempting to connect to 6 GHz?

3. Are you able to connect to 6GHz band previously?

4. How may systems are affected?

I look forward to your response.

Best regards

Hello Arnulfo_Cruz,

Thank you for the detailed information regarding 6GHz connectivity requirements.

The use of the 6GHz band may be prohibited by regulatory bodies in your country or might not be enabled on your platform by the system manufacturer. Confirm this with your system manufacturer before following next steps:

Ensure all of the below requirements are met to be able to connect to 6 GHz channels:

  • If a wireless card is manually installed, ensure that your system manufacturer has validated and approved its compatibility with 6 GHz.
  • Wi-Fi 6 devices support 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, and Wi-Fi 6E (or higher) devices support 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands.
  • Wi-Fi 6 (or lower) devices do not support the 6 GHz band.
  • Ensure the Wireless router and PC are equipped with Wi-Fi 6E or higher standards for building a 6 GHz connection.
  • Use the latest Wi-Fi drivers for Intel Wireless adapters (version 22.70.0 or later.)
  • Ensure you are using the latest version of Microsoft Windows *11 OS

Looking forward to your reply.

   - @Arnulfo_Cruz       The 9800 wireless controller for those access points
needs at least software version  IOS XE 17.14.x   for 6Ghz support in Mexico.

   - @Arnulfo_Cruz             I don't have any specific version info's for Meraki , but similar to the 9800 platform
you will probably need recent firmware :
