Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX201 lastest driver version not working

I am experiencing persistent driver-related issues with my Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160 MHz adapter on Windows 10/11. The Event Viewer logs show repeated internal driver errors and watchdog resets. These problems began after updating to recent driver versions (22.2xx series). Rolling back to an older driver temporarily resolves the issue.

Observed Event Viewer Errors:

  • 7017 – Secure Boot (SB) configuration
  • Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz: The network adapter is not functioning properly.
  • Internal error.
  • 5032 – Driver Miniport reset watchdog
  • The adapter returned an invalid value to the driver.
  • Fatal error: The miniport has detected an internal error.
  • The driver entered RTD3. All connected devices will be removed from the driver’s internal state, DeviceDisconnected events are expected.

Troubleshooting steps taken:

  • Clean driver reinstall (uninstall device, remove driver software, reboot, install latest Intel driver).
  • Tested multiple driver versions — recent 22.2xx releases cause instability, older versions such as 22.170.0.3 and 22.160.0.4 are more stable.
  • Disabled 802.11ax mode and reduced transmit power — partial improvement, but not a complete fix.
  • Disabled “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” and set Wireless Adapter settings to Maximum Performance.

Request:

  • Confirmation if this is a known regression in the recent AX201 driver versions.
  • Recommendations on a stable driver version officially supported for AX201.
  • Any official fix or updated driver addressing RTD3 handling and watchdog resets.

System details:

  • Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160 MHz
  • Windows 11 (latest updates)
  • Secure Boot enabled
  • Problem reproducible after wake from sleep/Modern Standby and under high network load.

Hello userwithdrivererror,

Thank you for posting in Intel community Forum.

For me to better understand and diagnose the issue further, let me ask you to provide detailed responses to the following questions. This information will help me isolate the problem and determine the most appropriate course of action moving forward.

  1. What is the brand and model of your system?
  2. Can you tell me where did you downloaded the driver?
  3. How did you update the driver?
  4. For me to review the hardware and installed drivers, kindly help generate the SSU logs of your system. Please refer to the link below on how to generate the logs:

Hello userwithdrivererror,

Thank you for the update.

Based on your reply, it seems that you are having issues with Intel Generic driver.

Can you try the OEM's latest driver? This driver is from your laptop manufacturer and this driver should work on your system.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your response and for suggesting the use of the ASUS OEM driver. I have installed the latest version provided by ASUS (23.130.1.1), but the WiFi connectivity issue persists, just as it did with the Intel generic driver (23.150.0).

Since neither the OEM nor the generic driver resolves the issue, I understand this might be a compatibility problem with my model or with the latest Windows update. I have noticed that the Event Viewer shows multiples errors related with the Netwtw10 service, although this issue may be caused by various factors.

I appreciate your assistance and consider this case closed on my side.

Thank you for your support.

I’m also using the Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz and having the same issues. Especially within the past month, I’ve noticed a lot of people reporting this around the same time, so I don’t think it’s just a simple hardware failure.

In my case, when I switch to a USB Wi-Fi adapter everything works perfectly, which shows that my network and system are fine. This makes me believe the problem is more related to the AX201 driver (or its compatibility with recent Windows updates) rather than the card itself being defective.

Still no fix or reliable solution so far, and having to rely on a USB Wi-Fi adapter that’s much slower compared to the built-in AX201 is really frustrating.

Hello userwithdrivererror,

Thank you for the update.

Before closing this ticket, let me just add or explain the difference between generic driver and OEM driver.

Generic driver is from Intel or manufacturer of the card that should work for all the cards out there, however OEM manufacturers can alter or modify the cards based on the design of the system and it is being controlled by their BIOS. So technically speaking, it is recommended to use OEM driver to enable the modifications made.

In this case, since you already tried both drivers, you may try to contact Asus to further check the configuration and also diagnose if this is a hardware issue.

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.
