Hello dgorns,
Thank you for posting in the Intel Communities and for the detailed description of your issue. It really helps me understand the situation better.
I understand how frustrating it can be when Bluetooth driver updates keep failing and are also preventing other software from installing. So let me help you get this sorted out.
Before we dive into the troubleshooting steps, I'd like to gather a few details about your system so we can make sure we're pointing you in the right direction:
- What is the make and model of your laptop? (e.g., Dell XPS 15, HP Envy 13, etc.)
- What version of Windows are you running? (e.g., Windows 10 or Windows 11, and the build number if available)
- What is the Intel Bluetooth/Wireless adapter model on your laptop? (You can find this in Device Manager under Bluetooth or Network Adapters)
- What is the current Bluetooth driver version installed on your system?
- Could you also share a screenshot of the error message you're seeing?
In the meantime, here are a few initial steps worth trying to clear up the installation issue.
First, try restarting the Windows Installer Service. The error about another installation being in progress usually means a previous process is still stuck in the background. Press the Windows Key and R, type services.msc, and press Enter. Find Windows Installer, right click on it, select Restart, then try installing any software again to see if the issue is resolved.
Next, clear your temporary files by pressing the Windows Key and R, typing cleanmgr.exe, and pressing Enter. Check the box for Temporary Files, click OK, and restart your laptop once done.
It is also worth checking for any pending Windows Updates, as a background update can sometimes lock the installer. Head to Settings, then Windows Update, and make sure everything is up to date with no restarts pending.
Once you have tried these steps, please share the results along with the system details so I can continue assisting you from there.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,
JeanetteC.

Hello dgorns,
Thank you for your patience while we worked on your case. We wanted to reach out one more time regarding the Bluetooth driver update issue you reported.
Since we haven't heard back from you after our previous post and follow-up, we wanted to share one final recommendation before we close this thread.
Based on the symptoms you described — where all software installations are being blocked after the failed Bluetooth driver update — this behavior is most likely tied to a Windows Installer Service issue at the OS level. We recommend reaching out to Microsoft Support directly for further guidance on resolving the Windows Installer Service, as they will be best positioned to assist with OS-level installation issues. You can reach Microsoft Support here: https://support.microsoft.com
Additionally, since we were unable to confirm whether the Bluetooth adapter on your laptop is an Intel product, we also recommend checking with your laptop manufacturer's support team for the recommended Bluetooth drivers specific to your system model. Using OEM-provided drivers is always the best starting point for OEM laptops.
As we have not received a response, we will be closing this thread. If you need any additional information, please submit a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.
Sincerely,
JeanetteC.
