Problems with Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC 7260

Hello.

I have WIFI troubles each time I start my laptop and using DHCP to connect. It attributes a wrong ip adress to my computer (169.254.84.x as prefered ip adress instead of 192.168.1.x). I have to resolve the wifi problem and it attributes a correct ip adress. It says that WIFI does not have a valid IP adress. Sometimes it randomly lost the connection and I have to resolve the problem again. I tried to fix IP adress but It did not avoid network disconnection.

It also lost connection when it go out sleep mode. So I uncheck the button to turn off WiFi Adapter when in sleep mode.

I have:

1) Updated Windows 8.1

2) Updated to new drivers 17.13.11.5 ( from intel website)

3) a wireless G router

All other device ipad, iphone, android tablet, laptops runing xp or windows 8.1 are working perfectly with router setup. Only intel adapter has troubles.

I also have wifi disconnection when I go away from router (in a place where other devices still have a good wifi signal) and then it says "Default gateway is not available".

Please, can someone help me get a steady wifi connection?

Hello Rockrog,

Can you tell us if the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 was the card the came originally installed in this computer?

Yes it was Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260.

Since this wireless card came already installed when you bought this computer, the correct drivers are provided by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). The drivers found in our web site are generic and thus may not meet the requirements of your system as ASUS did modifications to the card to fit their system. Got the info from this forum:

 

 

The problem is the newer Intel drivers, as many have pointed out.

 

Now to those remaining, take the steps that intel techs pointed out months ago, which involves:

 

* removing all intel network software from your 'add/remove applications"

 

* rolling back your driver version. This is done by going uninstall driver in device manager and choosing 'also remove software' tick box.

 

* Rescan again so it shows again, then repeat, and repeat, and repeat, till you get sick of repeating!

 

* Use CCleaner and clean your registry of any shit leftover, use windows disk cleanup etc. (good practise)

 

* Rescan till nothing shows, restart, repeat.. (now they didn't tell you about this repeating! hehe)

 

* Most of those who are onto it, won't have to repeat so much, but if you have been stuffing around trying to fix this, then there is a lot of rubbish to clean.

 

* Reboot

 

* It will reinstall it, check the version, is it the MS version? We are looking for version: 17.15.0.5 or simular 17x version.

 

Now you check your wifi, and it should be mint.

 

Now to stop Windows Update reinstalling the shitest driver from intel again, you can google this:

To anyone still having disconnect issues with the ac-7260 module, please try falling back on the driver version. Doing so has worked for many, including myself.
