Wifi card upgrade

Hello. I have the AC 9560 CNVio type E wifi card in my Asus GL703GM laptop.  I want to upgrade the wifi by replacing it with a better performing wifi card. It is the M.2 2230 card. I was looking at the AX200 and AX201 cards but I am not sure if I can just switch out my AC 9560 with one of these two cards. I would appreciate your help in finding the best upgrade card for my laptop.

Thanks, Matt

There are no CNVio-based cards that are compatible with your chipset. This includes the CNVio2-based cards (AX101, AX201, Killer AX1650 (i/s), AX211, Killer AX1675 (i/s), AX411 or Killer AX1690 (i/s)) and the CNVio3-based cards (BE201).

There is the possibility of using one of the non-CNVio adapters (AX200, Killer AX1650 (x/w), AX210, Killer AX1675 (x/w) , BE200, Killer BE1750 (x/w) or BE202). I must warn you, however, that there are laptops that will not work with any of these adapters installed. This can be the result of issues in the laptop's implementation of the M.2 Type E socket or it would be the result of the laptop's BIOS, which utilizes inclusion/exclusion lists to preclude these adapters being used. All you can do is try it. If it doesn't work, contact the support people for you laptop to see if there is anything they can do about it.

Hope this helps,

P.S. Note the following:

  1. You should uninstall the Wireless and Bluetooth drivers before shutting down the laptop to replace the card. Make sure you choose to delete all related software. You then reinstall the drivers after shutting down, replacing the adapter and booting back up into Windows.
  2. When you disconnect the antenna leads from the card, remember which is which so that you connect them in the same order with the new card. This is necessary because, in some laptops, the antenna are specifically designed/tuned to support only 2.4GHz or only 5.0GHz communication.
  3. For more information on the CNVio implementations and the Intel Wireless cards, consult my (attached) Wireless Card Cheatsheet.
