Wireless driver spamming Windows Event Log

GLuci

This is for a Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 chip on a Lenovo P50. The driver for the wireless chip keeps posting this to the Application Event Log every 9-11 seconds:

Source: Netwtw06

Event ID: 7023

Level: Information

Content: 7077 - Intel proprietary

It's cluttering my event log and making it difficult to find anything useful.

I have the latest version of the driver (20.30.1).

Is there any way to turn off this event logging? Or can it be removed in the next version?

@HKlum, finally figured out where your screen shot came from: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28503/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windows-10?product=86068. I'm realizing that the package number (20.110.0) is not necessarily the driver number. The latest for 8260 (and 8265) is 20.70.5.2; presumably the 20.110.0 package will install 20.70.5.2. if you have an 8260.

FWIW, the 8260 is still in Launched status; it is not yet discontinued: https://ark.intel.com/products/series/59484/Intel-Wireless-Products.

Exactly... That's how they deal with their drivers.

The problem is they don't want to release something with a better event log management for a reason they don't want to mention here. Intel give us a proper answer or fix it. Stop ignoring your customers. Do we all need to bring our laptop back to the shop complaining about your buggy drivers?! And I can swear you'll hear about it even from some specialized magazines, because this has made lose too many time now to a bunch of people. Respect a bit your customers. That's why you are here. And respect yourself first. Your developers seem ignoring what the event log is for watching their useless answer.

I was wondering why my Asus was waking up alone while hibernating. So that's maybe Intel again!!!

For several months now!

You cant write just "7077 - Intel proprietary" in the event log.

We are talking about the driver to "Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260" version 20.30.1.2 dated 10-01-2018 (day, month, year).

Please search the source code for the driver for the text "7077 - Intel proprietary", and solve the problem.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for your feedback. Please confirm if the same behavior is present if you use the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005559/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html latest wireless driver (version 20.40.0.4 as of today). Please make sure you follow-up the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000022173/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html clean installation process.

Hello Eugenio,

Thanks for this swift answer.

I installed the new version for 8265 interface few mins ago. For now, no more events 7023.

But just one observation, the driver 20.40.0.4 has been released the 6th of Feb (see screenshot below). So what's the point making us demonstrate there is something wrong if your dev team already knows it, I don't get it?

Anyway, I will revert if there is something wrong.

Looks good here too. I installed it about 15 minutes ago and haven't had any more events showing up. So it looks good!

Thank you Eugenio.

Hello Chris,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'll add these logs to our documentation.

We'll review this behavior with our engineers and we'll update the thread as soon as there are news. For now, we recommend rolling back to https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27615/Wireless-Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windows-10 driver version 20.40.0.4, a https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000022173/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html clean installation of the drivers is recommended.

Best regards,

Same issue here... I let intel update my driver what a mistake 20.40.0.4 had solved this, and now it's back... like a virus... amazing the most simplest of tasks so complicated.

Worth posting the log information that Eugenio has asked for (I agree that a simple task of merging a branch into their 20.50 release has been missed)

I am experiencing the same problem on multiple Lenovo T5xx notebooks here in our company bureau.

I've upgraded to the newest driver - following the infos in this thread - but problem stays the same. System event log gets spammed with event ID 7023 (source: Netwtw06) all the way. Yeah, one can still filter all this junk, but thats not really the solution in this case. If this is tagged as "works as intended" then please add an error description to that event happening every some seconds or just stop it from happening at all, if it has no impact or nobody really needs to know that it happened.

I added the mentioned logfiles like described in one of the threads. Maybe it helps.

Thanks a lot for taking a look into this and letting us know, how to get it fixed.

Same here. But I'm at Driver 20.50.0.3.

The event logs start appearing EXACTLY after Windows Update installs:

Installation Started: Windows has started installing the following update: Intel - net - 3/14/2018 12:00:00 AM - 20.50.0.3

Ever since then, every minute, my event log is overflowing with Event ID 7023 events that contain a single line : 7023 - Intel proprietary

Dear all,

I confirm that the event log is spammed with this source in system eventlog. I've tried to use each driver version but same behavior.

Does the Intel team work on it?

Thanks in advance for your job.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for your inputs and logs.

The teams in charge are still working on this. To avoid the constant Event ID 7023 entries, please rollback to driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27615/Wireless-Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windows-10 version 20.40.0.4.
