display unclaimed

Hi all,

I recently bought a hp probook 450 g3 and tried to install linux trisquel 7.0 on it.

The problem is that many hardware devices are UNCLAIMED.

The two most annoying ones are mirror displays and wireless connection.

So I wanted to know how to troubleshoot all this and maybe find a solution, at least for mirror displays.

Thanks,

Olivier

oraora20,

Currently there are no support for Intel® WiDi on Linux*. You're welcome to check the requirements by accessing this link: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/emerging-technologies/000014932.html System Requirements for Intel® Wireless Display (Intel® WiDi). We also would like to take this opportunity and inform you about this relevant piece of information regarding Intel® WiDi: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/emerging-technologies/000021693.html Product Discontinuation Notice for Intel® WiDi and Intel® Pro WiDi

Which Intel® Wireless Adapter do you have installed in this computer?

Hello and thank you so much for replying!

Unfortunately I think I have not been clear enough:

As I said the two biggest problems are the impossibility to turn on wiFi (not wiDi) network and to mirror displays because the OS cannot find suitable drivers.

There is a third problem actually: when I want to wake computer and lift the screen part, the screen stays black even if I press the start button.

So there are three problems: can't turn on wiFi, can't mirror displays through CABLE via HDMI and VGA and can't wake up properly from suspend.

I installed ubuntu on it and these three issues are resolved without having to do anything, but if someone could help me that would be great because I prefer a million times trisquel!

Thanks again,

Olivier Auffan.

oraora20,

Thank you for the clarification. It is always a pleasure to assist you. We understand you want the WiFi to work on Linux* Trisquel 7.0 so you can mirror display, correct? In order to do so, it is important to take into consideration the following:

1. Considering you have a compatible Intel® Wireless Adapter installed, Intel® WiDi is a feature found in most Intel® Wireless Adapters that allows you to display, extend or duplicate your computer screen and its use depends on the system configuration as you can confirm through the link provided to you previously and currently, its support is offered to Windows*7, Windows*8.1 and Windows®10.

2. Intel does not develop drivers for Linux*. Since the OS is Linux* (Trisquel 7.0), the support for Intel® Wireless adapter for this OS can be found here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005511.html?wapkw=linux+support+for+bluetooth Linux* Support for Intel® Wi-Fi Adapters - Please confirm which Intel® Wireless Adapter you have installed in order to get the proper attention from this support.

3. If you are using an HDMI cable to connect, no Internet connection is needed since this is a physical connection and if the screen is black when you connect. We advise to contact the proper support. This link may help you find support: https://www.linux.com/news/best-lightweight-linux-distros Linux*

Additional information:

Mirror display through the Internet may use http://www.dlna.org/ DLNA* to establish this connection, if you don't want to use a cable and confirmation if this OS supports this feature is needed.

4. If this is a laptop, it is important to confirm with thehttp://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/OEMs.html computer manufacturer if your system is fully compatible with Linux* products. If it is a desktop, confirm with the motherboard manufacturer if it is also fully compatible with this specific version of Linux*

Best regards,

Hello again!

I have checked the links but it does not resolve a lot of things.

I tried to install firmware for WIFI but it does not work.

So could it be possible to do the troubleshooting step by step, checking the logs in chronological order to try and see where the problem is?

For starters, could someone give me the order of files that are part of boot?

Regards,

Olivier.

In order to help you, we need to know if your computer meets the requirements to use Intel® WiDi. Did you have the opportunity to check this link? http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/emerging-technologies/000014932.html System Requirements for Intel® Wireless Display (Intel® WiDi) it informs about the requirements to use our technology. It is important to check that first.

Please bear in mind that Intel® WiDi is not available for Linux* and if any support for any Intel® Wireless Adapter is needed in Linux* ecosystem, this is where you will get support for it: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005511.html?wapkw=linux+support+for+bluetooth Linux* Support for Intel® Wireless Adapters

oraora20,

There could be many reasons as to why you get a black screen when waking up your computer on Linux*. Unfortunately, support for this type of situation is not provided in this forum.

Regarding the unclaimed display and the Internet connectivity issue, it suggests that the drivers may be missing and there is no device file. If you have an Intel® Wireless Adapter installed in this computer, here is where you are going to get the drivers from: https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi Linux* Wireless.

Support for Intel® Wireless Adapters on Linux* is only available through the open-source community mailing lists, the link above offers a section that says "Support" and it shows how you can obtain assistance in order to help you with the Internet connectivity.
