Symbol file format

Hello:

I'm trying to get the detailed timing profile for application running on an XScale based device. The sampling data was collected remotely and then VTune 7.3 analyzer is used to post process the data.
However, there seems to be a problem with the symbol resolution. I have a stripped binary (ld-linux.so.2 for example) and a text symbol file generated by our build team (ld-linux.so.2.txt). Yet when I specify the binary file and the symbol file in the Module Associations dialog, VTune complains that the chosen pair of binary and symbol is invalid.
There are a couple of questions about it:
1. Is there a special format the symbol file has to follow to be accepted by VTune?
2. Is there any way to check if the binary and symbol files actually match (i.e. correct)?

Thank you,
-Ilya.
