Unable to create activity

I'm working with a demo copy of VTune in the Visual Studio 2005 environment, running under XP. When I first installed it, I could define new activities with the various wizards. But a short while ago I was unable to stop an activity by normal means and had to shut Visual Studio down with the Windows Task Manager. Now I'm unable to create any activities. The Tuning Browser window is empty (before, it showed my two projects). When I select Tuning/Create New Activity and choose any wizard, I get the message "An error occurred while attempting to create the selected new project wizard." I can't find any way to add my projects to the Tuning Browser -- from the VTune documentation, it only says that VTune will do this automatically. Well, it doesn't. What do I do now?
