I upgraded VTune to the latest version, 9.0.454, and now every time I
restart my machine VTune installer kicks in and stays active for about
a minute, grinding the hard drive. The machine is Win2K3 64-bit. Other
than that, VTune runs normally. Can somebody point me to a registry
entry I need to fix in order to stop this?

Hello,
you can find the solution for the problem here: http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums//topic/54920
In a word:
To stop the Windows Installer from continuously repairing the VTune analyzer installation at reboot or DLLs registration, create a text file called "CompAnchor.txt" with any content in the VTune Analyzer product folder (typically "C:Program FilesIntelVTune").
/Andy.
