Hey MR,
The root password is a must for all software up to the BRAND NEW VTune 8.0 for Linux which will be available forpurchase or evalutation right now, at our softwareweb site:
With 8.0 there are a few options that require root password, and one that doesn't.
Check it out!
cheers

Hi,
sorry to bring up such an old post, but i can't figure out how to install VTune 8.0 without root privileges...
I couldn't find anything in the included documentation. Can anybody shed some light on this, i'm lost!
Thanks,
Simon

VTune sampler requires root privilege to run as well as to install. There isn't a lot of functionality which could be run without root access.

Any user in the default group "vtune" can run the analyzer. It's absolutely not true that only root can it.
(If the installer selected a different group other than "vtune", then, members of whatever group was selected can run the analyzer. If you aren't sure what group was picked during the install, check out the install log in the /var/log subdir.)
Simon, have you tried installing a GUI - only install?
