Hi,
Where can I find a good documentation with all the event names and descriptions for core i7 ?
http://www.intel.com/software/products/documentation/vlin/ - this document only has them for core 2 duo (and some others).

thanks

I don't think that event manual can be available in website.

If you have installed the product, you can find events for Intel Core 2 processors:
1) Linux: /opt/intel/vtune/doc/users_guide/index.htm - see VTune Performance Analyzer User's Guide/Reference/Processor Events and Advice/Intel Core i7 Processor
2) Windows: VTuneHelppmn.chm

In addition to what Peter recommended, the Intel 64 and IA-32 Architectures Optimization Reference Manual is a good source ofknowledgefor performance events. See chapter B.2PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES FOR INTEL XEON PROCESSOR 5500 SERIES

Additionally, we have an optimization guide which describes how to use some of the key events on Core i7 - "Using Intel VTune Performance Analyzer to Optimize Software on Intel Core i7 Processors". You can find it at: http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/using-intel-vtune-performance-analyzer-to-optimize-software-on-intel-core-i7-processors/
