unable to checkout floating license with Update3 but previous updates work

Some of our users are trying the latest client (2018 update3) and they can't connect to the license server to check out a floating license.
The users with older version of the client can still check out licenses.
The server is running the latest version I can find, 2.6.0.003

Thoughts?
