Hi

I have WHL CRB with i219-LM (8086:10BD).

I want do disabe power management (PHY PD Ena bit of Shared Init Control Word) but I haven't found the right tool for it.

Can you point to such a tool?

Hello tallu,

Thank you for posting in Intel Ethernet Communities.

For us to further check the issue, can you clarify if you are designing a system with embedded i219-LM?

Why do you need to disable the power management?

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Hi Michael

Thanks for replying.

First;, let me provide some background about what I'm trying to do.

I'm checking if it is possible to boot Linux on WHL including Ethernet working (available for communication) in ~3 seconds. For that I have Intel's WHL CRB with SBL (Slim Boot Loader) which loads Linux in ~1.7 seconds. Ethernet is ready in ~6.5 seconds.

I also measured the duration from link down to link up (~4.5 seconds).

I am testing against i219-LM because WHL CRB has i219-LM (8086:15BD) and we intend to use some COMe which has i219-LM.

Are there better options (other Ethernet controllers) for my purpose?

I wanted to cancel PM because I suspect it affects boot time.

Do you have other suggestions how to cut down Ethernet up time?

Regards,

Tal

Hello tallu,

Thank you for the quick response. I am trying to get your end goal for me to further assist you.

So the end goal here is you want to lessen the boot time of the system by adjusting the power management?

By the way, if you are using a PCIe card, can you provide some photos of the card on both sides focusing on the markings?

If you have questions, please let us know. In case we do not hear from you, we will make a follow up after 3 workings days. Thank you.

Hi Michael

I'm using Intel's WHL CRB which is described here:

595776-whl-u-rvp-crb-ug-rev1p3.pdf

As far as I understand the MAC is embedded in the chipset and the PHY is connected via PCIe (as can be seen in 595776).

As for my goal, I'm looking to lessen boot time.

If cancelling power management will help to reach that goal I'll do it.

Regards,

Tal
