Hi Intel,
for i210 ethernet controller, can I use an off-the-shelf SPI programmer to program the external Flash, without using Eeupdate or lanconf software tool ?

Hello, tgbl:
Thank you for contacting Intel Embedded Community.
In order to be on the same page, could you please let us know the part number and manufacturer of the external flash?
By the way, could you please let us know if this thread is related to a technical issue? In case that your answer is affirmative, could you please give us a detailed description of this problem?
Waiting for the information that should answer these questions.
Best regards,
Carlos_A.

Hi Carlos,
I am using i210-IT in our design for a Xeon D1500 CPU (Camelback Mountain reference). We intend to use one of the reference Flash ICs suggested by i210 datasheet.
It is not a technical issue, but a general inquiry. I am thinking of programming the flash IC externally, and test it. This is because our motherboard's BIOS is still under development, and might not be ready for booting up all the way to a host OS like Windows/Linux. Thus, the EEupdate tool is useless at our early stage of development.

Hello, tgbl:
Thanks for your clarification.
You may use an external SPI flash programmer to load the image. You can review as a reference the following website:

We hope that this information may help you.
