Atom E38xx LPC, RTC, USB Failure Issue

Our weighing products use a custom E3826 motherboard has been in production for 2+ years, they generally operate 24/7 and have been very reliable.

Our customers expect an operational lifetime of 7 to 10 years from our products and any degradation in this will reflect badly on our reputation and future sales.

Our motherboard manufacturer initially believed the LPC_CLKRUN# BIOS workaround fixed all but now understand it has no effect on RTC, SD and USB.

We don't use the SD bus, so our major concern is that we have 2 full speed USB1.0 devices permanently connected and also use the RTC.

USB functions are for a touchscreen and a USB digital weight load cell, any problems with the weighing or time keeping will contravene the legislative approvals our products must comply with.

In order to create a mitigation plan we need to know the predicted failure rate of the USB and RTC circuits.

e.g. Is there any point in applying the LPC BIOS fix to the 8,000 machines already in use across the world if the USB and RTC will fail anyway?

USB and RTC circuits failure rate information has not been given to our motherboard manufacturer and I've been unable to find anything.

Do you have any failure rate data for the USB and RTC circuits?

Hello Carlos

Are you sure your link does work?

The contact form site looks strange and I received neither a reception confirmation nor an answer from Intel yet.
